WELCOME!

The Molecular Genetic and Cell Biology Group is part of the Malaria program led by Prof Gordon Awandare. The group aims to bridge the gap between bench and field research. We are doing so by harnessing state-of-the-art facilities at WACCBIP to understand the different Plasmodium species circulating in Ghana towards the development of effective interventions.

The group’s research interest includes, but not limited to, understanding erythrocyte invasion mechanisms of merozoites in field isolates, novel antigens discovery, drug target identification and validation, molecular diagnostics, the impact of non-falciparum species on malaria interventions, receptor discovery, etc.

Our singular focus is to improve the health and well being of the continent against infectious diseases.
